Cover Art for Kanye West’s Scrapped ‘Chiraq’ Album Surfaces
Revealed by former DONDA lead art director, Joe Perez.
After sharing what YEEZUS was almost named, former DONDA lead art director Joe Perez has now revealed the cover art for Kanye West’s scrapped Chiraq album.
Perez posted the cover on his Options Archive Instagram, a page where he often shares archived concepts and artworks he’s made for G.O.O.D. Music. In the accompanying caption, the creative revealed the artwork was created and that the album was expected for a 2015 release. As usual Virgil Abloh handled creative direction, while Perez, JJJJound, Heron Preston and Nate Brown took care of art direction, and Bryan Rivera served as a design assistant.
It is interesting to note that Perez says that he “can’t remember” much about the project as it was scrapped shortly after the newly surfaced cover was created. “Rough concepts – Round 1 of 1. Possible album design and honestly can’t remember much past that since it was only a one round assignment.”
