Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has been brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja according to suit filed for the allegations of certificate forgery.
The complainant,Edobor Williams, Ugbesia Abudu Godwin and Amedu Dauda Anakhu alleged the governor of forging his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) certificate in classical studies from the University of Ibadan.
In suit filed by the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the offense goes against Section 182(1)(i) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.
The offence thereby, makes Obaseki “not qualified to run or seek the office of the governor of Edo state” in the September 9 governorship election as noted by the plaintiffs
The governor lawyer”Alex Ejesieme” on reacting to the allegations, described the suit as not important and beside the point. He said the defenant is preparing the response to challenge the complainant in court next week.
The party in the state has been splited into two groups since last year, due to the crisis between Obaseki and Oshiomhole.
The Edo state government had also sued Oshiomhole for his failure to do what is required of him based on state public law agreement during the construction of the Edo specialist hospital and supply of equipment for the hospital, while he was governor of the state.
