The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF) has recently suggested that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo may be harboring grievances against the All Progressives Congress’ (APC’s) presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Speaking with DAILY POST, Shettima noted that it is unfortunate that the current political climate has become strained and Tinubu, who has been a strong supporter of the current administration, deserves better. He went on to suggest that either the administration publicly demonstrate their support of Tinubu or openly state if they are not in agreement. Shettima further cited the example of former president Obasanjo and the support he had given to the late president Yar’Adua.
Shettima suggested that Tinubu should not rely on the governors for support and should instead reach out to Nigerians, CSOs and organizations. He noted that due to the lack of commitment from the president and vice president, as well as the governors, it would be difficult for the APC presidential candidate to get the necessary support. Obasanjo had gone out of his way to campaign for the presidential candidate and continued to do so even in the absence of the candidate in order to ensure that his successor came into power.
He suggested that Tinubu would benefit from changing his strategy and suggested that Kashim Shettima and APC would also benefit from the shift. He also noted that only five governors were with Tinubu, while the others were just supportive.
Shettima has been doing his best to make an impact in the Northern part of the country. It is evident that the 2023 elections are quickly approaching and campaigns are in full swing. It appears that there may be a divide in the APC given the lack of campaigning from Osinbajo. I suggest Tinubu take a more hands-on approach by engaging with the people, rather than relying on the governors, in order to ensure success in the upcoming elections. Furthermore, Tinubu should be mindful of Osinbajo’s body language as it indicates that he may not be in full support.
