Yesufu spread the word about this on Friday in a selective meeting with The PUNCH. She was responding to an order by the Nigerian Communications Commission that Nigerians should present the International Mobile Equipment Identity of their telephones to the commission from July.
The IMEI number is a 15-digit number novel to each telephone. With it, a telephone can be followed and found independent of the cell number in it.
As per the NCC, the move would empower it “to diminish the fake cell phone market, debilitate cell phone robbery, upgrade National Security, ensure purchaser premium, increment income age for the public authority, decrease the pace of hijacking, moderate the utilization of taken telephones for wrongdoing, and work with impeding or following of taken cell phones and other brilliant gadgets”.
Yet, talking with The PUNCH on Friday, Yesufu said it is neither savvy nor ok for Nigerians to present their telephone characters to the NCC under Pantami.
Pantami, an individual from the President’s bureau from Gombe State, heads the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy responsible for the Nigerian Communications Commission, National Information Technology Development Agency, National Identity Management Commission, Nigerian Postal Service, among others.
